In this rejuvenated first-floor lobby, a plethora of seating options were added to maximize functionality and create an inviting and visually appealing atmosphere. The walls and ceiling were brightened, as well as the original fireplace (now flanked by new upholstery seating) to help draw your eye all the way through the space. Focusing on sustainability, we reused the existing light fixtures while introducing energy efficient LED bulbs, and opted to revitalize the slate flooring rather than replace it. The renewed colors that emerged from the flooring, such as eggplant purple, helped inspire the color palette throughout. Now the space leaves a lasting positive impression on visitors and residents alike.

Natural light flows freely through the large arched window above the Kallista soaker tub and into the large steam shower. Prior to the remodel, the shower felt cavernous, cramped, and gloomy as minimal daylight could only reach the shower stall through the former glass door. The designer saw an opportunity to open the existing shower walls up by incorporating glass above the two half walls. To the right of the bathtub, the designer replaced the existing water closet passage door with a custom pocket door that included a built-in full-length mirror. This mirrored pocket door saved space, provided privacy to the clients, and served to reflect the light throughout the bathroom.

With its dramatic custom ceiling and locally-sourced limestone fireplace, the gathering room is the focal point of the home and is designed to encourage family members of all ages to spend quality time together. The sliding glass panel doors to the left lead to the foyer. During summer months, the doors can be left open, offering wonderful cross breezes throughout the home, while during the winter, the doors can be closed to retain heat in the gathering room. One-of-a-kind touches include the fireplace niches for candles; the sofa table is entirely handmade by a local craftsman who constructed the piece from a single piece of wood derived from a fallen tree near the property, and the antique fireplace fenders, part of the original cabin once located on the property, were refurbished and upholstered in warm leather. The subtle and luxurious mix of textiles make for a welcoming, relaxed and family-friendly environment.

Protection from the sun was important to my clients, so I included two large parasols, a covered cabana with drapes and the retractable awning for the pool house. They can spend as many hours outdoors as they like! Note: the cocktail table and nesting tables are made of a durable travetine.
The poolside coffee table and set of stacking tables — which both feature UV- and heat-resistant travertine — are handy for snacks and beverages, e-readers, cell phones and tubes of sunscreen.
